My Voice Book is a press-and-speak communication book with 128 expressive words and phrases across eight sections, spoken in a real British woman’s voice.

Created for children who need another way to express themselves, it pairs colourful illustrations with recorded speech. Open a section, press “Start”, then press a picture to hear its word or phrase spoken aloud.

The voice was an important part of creating this book. I wanted the words to have warmth and expression, with feeling behind what is being said.

The book includes ways to:

• Express everyday needs with phrases such as “I’m thirsty” and “I need help”.

• Share feelings with words such as “I’m happy”, “I’m worried” and “I’m excited”.

• Make choices and express preferences, including “Yes”, “No”, “I like it” and “I don’t like it”.

• Communicate sensory experiences, such as “Too loud”, “Too bright” and “I need quiet”.

• Connect with other people, from saying “Hello” to “I love you”.

The eight sections are Everyday Words, How I Feel, What I Want and Need, My Senses, My Body and Health, People and Pets, Places I Go, and Feel-Good Words.

There are also recording buttons for adding your own words and phrases, so you can include messages that are personal to your child and family.

Tear-resistant pages: The inner pages have a matte laminated finish to help resist tearing. They’re tear-resistant, but not tear-proof.

I put a lot of thought into how the book looks, too. I wanted children to have something colourful and full of character to look at and explore. The illustrations are an important part of that.

My Voice Book was inspired by my daughter, Lola, who is non-verbal. Throughout her life, we’ve explored different ways to communicate and developed our own unique way of understanding each other. That experience sparked my interest in communication devices and eventually led me to create this book.

My hope is that it gives children another way to share what they want, how they feel and what matters to them, alongside the ways they already communicate.

If it helps even one child communicate a little more with someone else, then it has done what I hoped it would do.

My Voice Book has a built-in rechargeable battery and charges via USB-C. A charging cable is not included.
